itunes cover flow
So, I did a revamp recently on the site, including some new filters and effects that are getting more and more popular these days, minor mods to the css and filtering out restriction's of early web.1 design standards.

I love what apple are doing with pushing interaction online. Their itunes cover flow is an excellent way of creating a slide show that has interactivity, usability and the awe factor combined in one nifty component.

The itunes cover flow has started appearing on a few blogs, sites and galleries to improve customer click through rates. It just seems that people cant help them selves.

I created the itunes cover flow in Adobe Flash. Creating the effect is very very simple would you believe. You DO NEED to buy a component but at under $60 it is very worh while, easy to use, quick to install and the component itself is totally flexible.

If you are a complete newbie at flash, all you need to do it literary open up one of the demo files provided and then alter the images to match. The component has an incredible user friendly guide that spells out even the most simplest of commands and to back this up they have an incredible forum that seems to answer everything you could ask for.

So in my opinion if you are looking to make the itunes cover flow, then look no further because this component does exactly everything you need and more.

You only need to know a tiny amount of flash to do this effect, the demo files provided are easily rewritable and the forums provided for help are second to none.

Photoshop Tutorials | Fire Effect

Photoshop Fire Tutorial

1.) Open a new document to the required size. I will be using 500x500 with a white background.

2.) Go to Filter -> Render-> Clouds

3.) Your image should now be similiar to this

4.) Go to Filter -> Render-> Difference clouds

5.) Your image should now be similiar to this

6.) To maximise the effect repeat step 5, keep going untill you are happy with the style. An easy way to do this is to press
crtl/Apple F .

I repeated step 5 about 10 times to produce this

7.) Go to Image -> Adjustments -> Gradient map

8.) Now click on the gradient bar to apply your own personal settings.

9.) Now select a gradient similiar to the desired colours. In this case I chose the circled gradient

10.) Go to the bar at the bottom and modify and add your colours. There is no need to supply colour references here, as this can be altered to make a number of different effects.

When completed play around with the various liquify tools and warp tools to enhance the fires realism.

The fire can now be used as a filter layer for text effects, great for blowing up stuff and creating hell.

Creating Realism

Creating banners, link bait or any media rich content is a fun and challenging task. Adobe and other applications are making it easier and easier to add that touch of class to your files.

You are only limited by your imagination and own creativity. Adding realism, interaction and other ways of increasing your chances of a click through is all about creativity.

One of my favorite concepts in creating online materials is giving items a touch of realism.

A very simple to apply but very effective effect is simply achieved by adding slight movement in an image.

The movement can be interactive or self standing, the point is creating a touch of realism itself. It doesn't really matter how you do it, just do it.

Just by adding a simple concept like making animated water in the below picture makes it visual more interesting and also creates a sense of awe to the viewer.

There are many possible ways that can increase the sense of realism.

Break the image in to obvious sections in photo shop. Separate the clouds, trees, water, cars, or any imagery that usually has some movement and exploit. Importing in to flash and playing around the layers can instantly increase the images appeal.

Over powering an image will detract from the point. I find that subtly works better. If its slight and un apparent at first glance, then usually the viewer wont grow a distaste for it. Keeping it simple and aun obtrusive will increase its shelf life.

Your images should be more unique and original. perfect link bait material. The web should be a showcase for your own work, so challenge it....

In this case I have added a simple water effect to make the water look like its moving.

"Roll your mouse over the pool near the steps!!"

If we look at the image , we notice certain discrepancies that need to be considered.

The water under the bridge for example has the same attributes applied to the overall body of water.
Along the pools edge some of the ripple effect spills over and creates the illusion that the actual concrete is rippling like water.

The rain effect act at the WRONG angle for the image.

All of these are issues that I have left in purposely to demonstrate how an image can appear wrong if small imperfections are left.

As opposed to animating the clouds, I have opted for a blue sky (all be it a badly done one to save on both file size and time for the example of this presentation.

Photoshop Tutorials | How To Make Your Personal Avatar

This is one of the most fun things you can do on Photoshop that has a wide range of uses. Creating your own avatar.

Firstly take a photograph of your self in a desired pose wearing a pair of aviators like so
Next you need to make a new layer with just the glasses on so make a new layer like so

And then using the brush tool just create a colour over the glasses, mine looked like this

Next you need to double click the layer and apply these settings to give the layer the stereotypical reflection effect perfect for an avatar like so

Now here is what you should have

You guys best not use my face !!!!

Photoshop Tutorials | Boob Job

This is a quick and easy effect for quick humor that can have you giggling around on the floor for hours.

Its a very simple technique that I know many people will enjoy.

To Start with get a picture of the girl, Im using this one

Now all you need to do is open up the Liquify Tool by going to "Filter" on the top tool bar then select "Liquify" from the drop down box and apply these settings

Now hover the cursor over each boob and click about 5 times. Depending on the picture you may want to move the cursor around a fraction to give them more of a round pert look.

here is what I ended up with after only about 3 minutes of paying, imagine what a good hour could generate

enjoy
